Samantha Carter Wins DAR District Contest
January 15, 2026
Brentwood School proudly announces that senior Samantha Carter has been named the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) Georgia Southeast District Good Citizen Award Essay Contest Winner.
The DAR Good Citizens Award and Scholarship Contest is a prestigious program that recognizes high school seniors who exemplify the qualities of dependability, service, leadership, and patriotism. Students are selected by their teachers and peers for demonstrating these characteristics at an exceptional level within their homes, schools, and communities.
After being selected as Brentwood School's DAR Good Citizen, Samantha advanced to the scholarship portion of the program. This phase included a personal statement and a timed essay written on an undisclosed topic. This year's essay centered on the 250th Birthday of the United States of America.
Samantha's essay was first selected as the Washington County winner, earning her advancement to District-level competition. At that level, her essay was again chosen as the top entry for the Georgia Southeast District, which represents approximately one-third of the state.
This accomplishment is especially notable as Samantha is the first District-level winner from Washington County in 17 years.
'We are incredibly proud of Samantha and the character, leadership, and patriotism she represents,' said Danny Howell, Brentwood Head of School. 'She is an outstanding example of the values this award seeks to honor.'
Brentwood School also extends its sincere appreciation to Sandra Avant and the Jared Irwin Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution for their continued support of students and for hosting this meaningful program each year.
